Have you invited your local politicians to your Plunge?
There are few more photogenic events than a bunch of people jumping in cold water in the winter, and few individuals who look forward to the media spotlight more than politicians. As awareness of global warming has grown exponentially in the past year, many politicians are looking for ways to get involved and show their support - why not let them take the Polar Bear Plunge with you?
We are having great success doing this in Maryland, with a number of county officials, state legislators, and even a member of the Governor's cabinet joining us at our Plunge. (We're still working on Governor O'Malley himself!) One helpful hint: some politicians really fear cold water even more than most, so for any who are, consider suggesting that they be part of the "blanket brigade," staying on shore to hold the blanket and cup of hot cocoa for their fellow legislators who are actually going in. You can get more of them involved this way, build more connections with folks you need to influence, and get more media attention for your Plunge.

May I begin by saying you guys are doing an totally AWESOME job keeping us motivated and giving us everyting we could possibly need to spread the "Green" efforts!!! KUDOS!
Unfortunately, here in Indiana there is a GREAT need to be green. FOr the Polar bear plunge we don't have access to water in central IN, however, some of us mothers who are actively involved in Step It Up efforts, feel the need to reach out to our children via schools and thought the Polar Bear idea was the perfect one to reach out to children. We greatly under estimate their passion and influence :). We had a great idea of calling our efforts "Principals for Polar Bears". I'm purchasing a polar bear costume and we are going to select a polar bear book approp. for 1-4th graders, designate the first week of Dec. as polar bear awareness week and go into the schools. We are also going to try to hand out polar bear items/gifts, stickers, and a simple handout (coloring page) with things kids can do to help the polar bears. Can we promote this on our SIU website? Please give us your thoughts and ideas.

Hi there Gordon! Yes I met with Governor Ritter yesterday at a fund raiser for our local representative Dianne Primavera! I invited him! Not sure if it will work though...I also put an event invite in for Hillary! What the heck right!
We are so proud of our Governor for presenting a climate action plan here on November 5th! Now I hope to get everyone out on the slopes to thank him as well.
WE are far behind Maryland but we have just joined the 15 or so other states who are taking matters into thier own hands.
You all have so many plungers! I might be the only one here!
The map looks agreat and I am excited even if I have to plunge on my own!
I will be heading up to Aspen this week to hand out some flyers and the press release has been sent out.
I am just so thrilled that we have a plan here now in this state.

At first they just came for the incandescent light bulbs
and I did not speak out
because these days, I prefer to hide in the darkness of my warm basement.
Then they came for the plastic shopping bags
and I did not speak out
because I was already using the 100% polyester/imitation weave environmentally friendly replacement bag they had issued me for approved minimal consumption usage laws.
Then they came with this giant diesel-powered truck to pickup and COMPOST my bagged leaves for me.
and I did not speak out
because I did not have any plastic bags.
Then they came for my drive-thru
and I did not speak out
because they had already taken my SmartCar and recycled it into an environmentally friendly bicycle, thank you very much.
Then they came with for my barbecue grill
and I did not speak out
because it doesn’t matter what the FucK you do to a vegetarian hotdog, it still tastes like Shit.
Then they came for my air conditioner
and I did not speak out
because by this time, the inevitable colder climate trend mysteriously re-appeared for reasons we still do not understand and may not ever.
Then they came to register me to vote
and I did not speak out
so they impaled my poor little weed infested, pesticide-free front lawn with a plastic Green Party re-election sign.
Finally, they came for me
and I COULD not speak out
because there was nothing left to give
or take.
Do you Global Warmers tell children that their children will be living a hell on earth? Why not?

Global Warmers are creationists. The believe the warming that started 140 years ago is the hottest and most rapid acceleration in earth’s history. Nothing before 140 years ago?
Why do you believe scientists? Scientists you say polluted our helpless planet with all of their evil chemicals in the first place.
Greenpeace loves to brag about how they and Rachel Carson have made today’s environment cleaner than 50 years ago and then they go on to demonize the very building block of life called CO2 and call it a poison.
This global warming is the modern day equivalent to witch burning.
Respect and celebrate nature and don’t insult Mother Nature and human intelligence with this aging theory.

I believe that it is painfully obvious that the earth is not a delicate balance and is not fragile but rather tough, resilient and adaptable. It was born out of chaos and will evolved in chaos. It is a giant leap of faith and intelligence to assume and fear that after BILLIONS of years humans will bring Mother Nature to its knees. Our so-called pollution is like farting in a hurricane.
We have an entire generation now that sees a blue sky and calls it brown with some invisible pollution. Celebrate Mother Nature, don't insult it. We are living longer than at any time in human history don't forget.
Our environment needs to be preserved, not saved from a mythical crisis.
Shame on all of you for embracing this silly concept with it's dark ages mentality.
